I fell asleep instantly on our return home from our evening at the Ambassador Hotel last night after a very disappointing meal.
The food we were served was not what we are used to at the hotel or at the standard we have come to expect in their dining room also the service we felt to be unbelievably abrupt.
The management must be very short staffed in the kitchen or they must have cut back to save money. The meal I ordered was uneatable the chips dry and hard were shriveled up and the new potatoes had not been prepared properly still had brown eyes on them.
The pie crust on the steak and kidney was lovely the gravy delicious the content good but under cooked, slightly tough demanding excessive chowing.
I was urged not to make a complaint as it would not do any good and I would only up set myself and show my self up as the rest of our party continued eating.
I did apologetic draw my unease about my meal to the waiter serving at our table who promptly removed my plate with out comment.
The first course the hotels regular sea food quiche a pastry case filled with assorted seafood swimming in a tomato based sauce was just plain boring.
The carrot soup warm and comforting but as usual there were not enough brown rolls to go around I had to share with another guest.
Only two jugs of iced cold water were provided not enough for the amount of people sitting at our table and no waiting staff with in call or visible at the time to request a replenishment.
Two tiny florets of cauliflower and a table spoon full of green peas constituted all the vegetables served. The biscuits and cheese selection was fine but served with no butter available near us on the table.
The coffee was served so strong and the cup was so full that I was unable to drink it. Admittedly I had requested decaffeinated coffee a little out of the ordinary I admit but even so.
Luckily another diner came to my rescue at this point and left the table on my behalf being forced to go and stand out side the kitchen door in order to way lay a waiter with the complaint over my coffee.
The after dinner speaker was well into his program when I was finally served freshly prepared decaffeinated coffee with hot milk and water in separate little silver pots.
We had paid £13.50. for a meal where only the coffee was enjoyable and that only after the intervention of a good Samaritan.
